XL: Introduction to Mysore

Have you ever wanted to learn more about this original way of teaching the Ashtanga yoga sequences? Or are thinking of giving the morning Mysore a try?

Then this XL is for you!

Whether you are a complete beginner or have Ashtanga experience this is a great space if you are new to the Mysore room. Learn more about this traditional practice method for Ashtanga yoga, a thoughtfully balanced method of flexibility and strength building. In the Mysore practice room, the sequence is tailored individually for your own breath and body, each posture taught one-on-one so it is accessible and personalised.

We will spend the first half of the XL examining the beginning of the Ashtanga primary sequence, looking at various modifications and options for each posture, with particular attention paid to the breath and to finding the meditation of this practice. The second half of the class will reflect on the Ashtanga 8 fold path and how it relates to practice, reviewing the philosophy and ideas for starting a Mysore practice.

After this class, you will feel confident to step into a Mysore room or keep up a self practice with the foundation you’ve learned!
